Poker Basics: Betting Actions

Understanding betting actions is crucial for poker. Here are the main options available to players:

CHECK

Pass the action to the next player without betting. Only available when no bet has been made.

CALL

Match the current bet amount to stay in the hand.

RAISE

Increase the bet amount. Other players must call, re-raise, or fold.

FOLD

Give up your hand and forfeit any money already bet. You cannot win the pot.

BET

Make the first wager when no one has bet yet.

ALL-IN

Bet all remaining chips. Used when you can't match a bet fully.

Quick Decision Guide:

  • Strong Hand: Bet or Raise to build the pot
  • Decent Hand: Call to see more cards
  • Weak Hand: Check (if possible) or Fold
  • Bluffing: Bet or Raise with any hand to make others fold
