Flop Decision Points
After the flop, you can check again or bet 2x your ante. This is your second-best opportunity to extract value, and the decision should be based on your hand strength relative to the board.
Always Bet 2x on the Flop
Made Hands
- • Any pair or better
- • Two pair, trips, straights, flushes
- • Even bottom pair is worth betting
- • Made hands need protection and value
Strong Draws
- • Open-ended straight draws
- • Flush draws (4 to a flush)
- • Combo draws (straight + flush)
- • Two overcards to the board
When to Check on the Flop
Weak Holdings
- • High card hands that missed the flop completely
- • Weak draws (gutshot straights, backdoor draws)
- • Overcards on dangerous boards (like A-high on K-Q-J)
- • When you need significant help to win
